(BOSTON, MA)  Feldman’s 25 Years of Connecting the Power of Business to the Power of Service is Recognized

Volunteerism is an important business strategy.  Mark Feldman knows this well; he advises corporations nationwide on integrating citizenship – volunteerism, sustainability, transparency, philanthropy and more – into a company’s core values and practices.

Today in Boston, more than 100 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) officers gather from over 60 of the nation’s largest companies to discuss the future of workplace volunteerism, invited by the Points of Light Corporate Institute, part of the largest organization in the world dedicated to volunteer service. They will use the occasion to recognize Cause Consulting Principal Mark Feldman as a “Daily Point of Light” for his commitment to the volunteerism field, contributions to the community, and mentoring Boston Public School teens through local nonprofit leader Youth Design.

As the Founder of Cause Consulting, a leading strategy and communications firm, Mark has spent his career helping companies strengthen business and impact society.  “Today, we have the opportunity and responsibility to steer a new, explosive wave of corporate employee volunteerism toward greater impact,” said Feldman in a recent blog about the evolution of the field.  “We can make employee engagement work even harder to create more value for community beneficiaries, corporate employees, and businesses.  We must focus on creating outcomes, not only outputs.”

Mark is passionate about volunteering his time to help Boston teens discover careers in creative industries.  As a skills-based volunteer with Youth Design, he helps young graphic designers translate their concerns about issues such as stereotyping, pollution, and smoking into inspiring public service campaigns.  With his Cause Consulting team, he empowers young people to re-envision their own career paths as potential creative professionals. “Mark brings his experience connecting the public and nonprofit worlds to the Youth Design Board and inspires our young people to realize the power of their voices to create change,” says Tony Richards, Youth Design Executive Director.

“Mark Feldman has a real passion for forging new territory, stretching limits, and getting results that matter,” says Boston Cares Executive Director, Patrice Keegan. “As a member of our Board and through his professional work, Mark has helped pave the way for thousands of individual and corporate volunteers to serve their communities in ways that didn’t exist a generation ago.”

As a young college graduate, Feldman was the third employee of New York Cares, and the innovative group-oriented “done in a day” volunteer model he helped to launch has become the centerpiece of myriad volunteer centers throughout the country.  Six months in, President George H.W. Bush’s inaugural speech turned “a thousand points of light” — volunteerism — into a national priority, and the message resonated.

Feldman has spent 25+ years connecting the power of business to the power of service.  At the Corporation for National & Community Service, Feldman helped launch AmeriCorps.  Following his tenure at Cone Communications, Feldman founded Cause Consulting ten years ago in partnership with his wife Nikki Korn, herself a noted expert in the citizenship field.  Their programs are in place at large, international companies around the world.
