causenation is a forum hosted by the team at Cause Consulting, a business strategy firm that advises companies and nonprofits on how to strengthen business and impact society.

At causenation, participants in the rapidly evolving corporate citizenship movement can draw inspiration; make sense of the trends that shape and reflect our progress; and share tales from our collective journey.

Over the past twenty years our writing team has had a broad range of experiences in the corporate citizenship space.  We have worked inside companies, inside governments, and inside nonprofit organizations.  We have had the opportunity to study, learn from, and to serve as advisors to hundreds of companies and nonprofit organizations.  Today, we are passionate about sharing our experiences and collaborating with others to develop new solutions to business and social problems.  We are looking forward to being a part of causenation.

Contributors to causenation include:

Mark Feldman, Principal and Managing Director at Cause Consulting, launched his career at New York Cares and then moved on to Harvard’s Kennedy School, Citibank’s Community Affairs group, and The Corporation for National Service/AmeriCorps.  He later became Executive Vice President of Omnicom’s Cone, Inc. and for eight years ran its Cause Branding Practice before opening the doors at Cause Consulting.  Today he advises Fortune 500 CEOs, marketing and foundation executives on corporate citizenship, communications, and the development of signature cause-marketing, branding, and strategic philanthropy programs. Mark is co-author of “Causes and Effects,” a best practice article on Cause Branding in the Harvard Business Review; is a frequent public speaker and source for national publications such as the Wall Street Journal; and is a faculty member at the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship.

Nikki Korn has an entrepreneurial spirit that runs like blood through her veins. As Cause Consulting Principal, she provides senior-level strategy on corporate citizenship, marketing, and public/private partnerships to clients.  Throughout her career she has played on both consumer and corporate social responsibility teams, including long stints with Cone and the Millennium Communications Group.  She has built and advised on cause programs including Adobe Youth Voices, JCPenney Afterschool, Chevy R.O.C.K. (Reaching Out to Communities & Kids), T-Mobile Huddle Up, and the Pearson Teacher Fellowship. Nikki is our “pop-culturalist-in-chief “embedding and infusing the most relevant trends of today into the programs she creates.

Risa Sherman, Senior Consultant, spends many of her waking hours looking for fodder she can apply to client programs, her writing, speaking engagements, and even the citizenship lectures she gives to her three children.  She is a hound for trends and information of all sorts that might be part of solving the complex businesses challenges she loves to tackle. She loved pulling the pieces together to create and launch Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream with the Boston Beer Company. Prior to Cause Consulting, Risa was the Senior Cause Strategist at PowerPact and a consultant at Cone Inc. She has also been a speechwriter and communications lead at several nonprofit organizations.  Risa believes one of her most important jobs as a parent is to grow the next generation of engaged citizens.
