Cause Consulting Ranked #2 on Corporate Responsibility Magazine’s Top Agency List

Corporate Responsibility Magazine announced its 2012 list of the top firms specializing in corporate responsibility and communications, ranking Cause Consulting as #2. This list appears in the January/February 2012 issue.

The biennial list evaluates firms against their peers based on customer feedback and rates their ability to provide a diverse range of high quality counsel. According to Corporate Responsibility Magazine, “current customers were asked to participate in an online survey regarding their experience with their provider. The survey measures three dimensions. The first is ‘Breadth of Service.’ The next dimension is ‘Deal Size’, a reflection of geographic reach or size of company. The final, and most important, component of the index is ‘Quality of Service.’ This is based on a series of questions that examined the performance, relationship, and trust between provider and customer.”

Cause Consulting’s New Website

This week we’ll formally launch our new causeconsulting.com website.  Now that our version 3.0 is up, we’ve forced ourselves to pause, reflect and take the time to read our own stuff.   Wow, we’ve covered a lot of ground.  We are truly grateful for the gift of being able to work with and learn from so many amazing clients, colleagues and friends.  Each week as the corporate responsibility field evolves, we find ourselves engaged in even more new and exciting work.  We are lucky!

As I step back to reflect, it is clear that what we do continues to be more relevant and important.  Our progression from strategic signature programs, to corporate responsibility, to social innovation mirrors the maturation and expansion of our field.  We are fortunate to work inside of some of the world’s most respected companies and brands and help them harness their resources toward creating both business and social value.  It has been amazing to see how social impact-related ideas rally diverse groups of employees and consumers to action, and impact.  This is how change happens.

Today is Patriot’s Day in New England, a perfect day to celebrate news that another revolution is storming the country. We are thrilled to share that the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and New York Magazine, among others have been spreading the word about the expansion of the Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream Program. This philanthropic initiative provides small food, beverage, and hospitality businesses with micro-loans, access to business coaching, and opportunities to showcase their products.

This month the program formally expanded its Loan Fund from five New England states to small brewers nation-wide, and to food and beverage and hospitality entrepreneurs in Ohio, Greater Lehigh Valley PA, and the five boroughs of New York City. Continue reading

Celebrating Volunteerism in Boston

As a member of the Boston Cares board of directors I was thrilled to celebrate the organization’s 20th Anniversary last week at Fenway Park. Joined by Boston’s Mayor Menino, Massachussetts Governor Patick, and hundreds of volunteer award winners and guests, we toasted the past and announced an ambitious agenda for the future.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Patrice Keegan and Board Chair Howard Kogan, the staff created and filled over 70,ooo hours of opportunity for Bostonians to take action in 2010 alone. And take action they did; some 25,000 people volunteered and helped hundreds of Boston nonprofits achieve their critical social and educational missions.

The Power of Coaching

I place my recent experience as a Segal Fellow Coach in the category of things I feel guilty about. Why? Not because I didn’t show up on time or give it my all, but because I got so much out of the experience. I can almost hear Eli knowingly chuckling about the power of service to help transform those who serve.

I am grateful to my Segal Fellow Alan Ratliff who during the time we spent together gave me a window into his dynamic and highly complex work informing GBLT (gay, bi-sexual, lesbian, and transgender) policy development on the state-wide level.  Over fancy salads, Japanese noodle soups, and something Thai that I am still not sure about, I learned about the disconnects between public officials and a new generation of youth leaders and activists in this arena.  Alan is bravely in the process of positioning himself as a bridge.  He is learning to speak the languages of multiple stakeholders and helping them find new ways to first “hear” one another and then, hopefully, work together.  Like most Fellows, he is a pioneer. Youth Design Launches Kids in Careers

Youth Design just graduated another class of summer youth designers and again their work is inspring and impressive. This innovative program places inner-city Boston high school students into paid summer internships with some of Boston’s most creative design professionals.

In addition to doing actual client work, this year’s class also created social message campaigns – a topic close to our hearts at Cause Consulting. As a judge for this Time to Design Competition, I was privledged to review the student’s work and help select the top designs for a limited edition cause T-shirt. I can’t wait to get and wear mine. First place was awarded to Youth Violence, see image above, for an amazing use of typography and words that send a life or death message. Continue reading
