The Chicago Tribune and the Wall Street Journal announced that Chicago’s small food, beverage and hospitality businesses are now eligible to participate in the Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream program, as its micro-loan fund becomes available to entrepreneurs in the Windy City this fall. From its beginnings in New England in 2008, Samuel Adams and its partner, ACCION USA, have rapidly expanded the micro-lending program to Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania; New York; Ohio; and to craft brewers nationwide. In Chicago, Samuel Adams will partner with ACCION Chicago to manage the program. Jim Koch, founder of Boston Beer, said: “We’re excited to be in Chicago and we’re hoping to get a lot of applicants. Small businesses are the engines for job creation, and if there’s anything this economy needs, it’s job creation.”
